This week, everyone is buzzing about the second season of ‘House of the Dragon.’ This highly anticipated prequel to ‘Game of Thrones‘ is based on parts of George R.R. Martin’s book ‘Fire & Blood,’ and takes place about 100 years after the Targaryen conquest that united the Seven Kingdoms, setting the stage nearly 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones‘ and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.
The second season, which premiered on this month (16 June 2024) consists of eight episodes released weekly. Excitingly, the series was renewed for a third season even before the second season’s premiere.
Continuing from where Season 1 left off, the new season dives into the civil war within the Targaryen family, known as the Dance of the Dragons. This conflict sees King Aegon II and Queen Rhaenyra’s factions fighting fiercely for control of Westeros.
The first episode begins 10 days after Lucerys’s death. Jacaerys is seen with Cregan Stark, the Lord of Winterfell, working to secure an alliance. Cregan agrees to support Rhaenyra in the Dance of the Dragons. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra mourns her second son’s death, and Daemon is determined to avenge their loss.
As the season progresses, viewers can expect intense political intrigue, dramatic alliances, and fierce battles that will shape the future of Westeros. The ongoing conflict within the Targaryen family promises to deliver the same level of excitement and complexity that fans have come to expect from the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe.
The series is now streaming on Showmax. Watch the trailer below to get started:
