Fresh off the BET Awards! South African singer Tyla triumphed, winning both the Best New Artist and Best International Act categories.

The event, held at the iconic Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, celebrated an array of musical talents and significant achievements.

Joining Tyla is South African star Makhadzi, who was honored with the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act award. This accolade is a testament to Makhadzi’s widespread popularity and the powerful connection she has forged with audiences around the world.

Nigerian sensation Tems also had a noteworthy night, winning the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her inspirational track “Me & U.” Her win highlights the cross-continental appeal and spiritual resonance of her music.

The BET Awards 2024, hosted by the multifaceted Taraji P. Henson, featured a star-studded lineup of performers, including Lauryn Hill, Ice Spice, GloRilla, and Will Smith. The evening was punctuated by memorable performances and heartfelt speeches, celebrating the achievements and contributions of Black artists in the music industry.

R&B legend Usher was bestowed with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by industry icons Baby Face and L.A. Reid. Usher’s recognition reflects his enduring impact on the music industry and his remarkable career that spans decades.

In a particularly poignant moment, Will Smith made a powerful return to music with his new single, “You Can Make It.” The performance featured a special guest appearance by Gospel icon Kirk Franklin and the soulful harmonies of the Sunday Service Choir, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The BET Awards 2024 not only celebrated the outstanding achievements of artists across various genres but also showcased the cultural richness and diversity of the global music scene.
