Fresh off the success of “How To Ruin Love,” Netflix is set to release another local gem this month.
The new romantic comedy, “Lobola Man,” stars Lawrence Maleka as Ace Ngubeni, a smooth-talking, self-centered love cynic who makes his living as a professional lobola (bride price) negotiator. Ace, a bachelor who questions the very existence of love, finds his perspective challenged when he meets a dazzling woman one night.
As Ace tries to forget about her, he takes on a new client, Duke Maseko, played by Sandile Mahlangu. Duke enlists Ace’s help with the lobola negotiations for his girlfriend, Zandile, portrayed by Kwanele Mthethwa. What starts as a typical job for Ace quickly turns complicated, forcing him to confront his own beliefs about love and relationships.
The movie features an ensemble cast including Primo Baloyi, Sthandile Nkosi, Obed Baloyi, Themba Ndaba, Letuka Dlamini, Nimrod Nkosi, Sello Ramolahloane, and Thembsie Matu.
“Lobola Man,” created by Burnt Onion Productions and directed by Thabang Moleya, debuts on Netflix on 12 July 2024.
The movie is helmed by the Ramaphakela siblings: Rethabile, Katleho and Tshepo, with Moleya.
