Orlando Pirates and adidas have unveiled the official Home and Away jerseys for the 2024/2025 season, paying tribute to the “Father of Soweto”.
James Sofasonke Mpanza, born in 1889 and often hailed as the “Father of Soweto,” was instrumental in forming Orlando Pirates in 1937, laying the foundation for one of South Africa’s most successful football clubs.
“One of the most enduring images of James Mpanza is his ride through Soweto on horseback,” said Bob Maphosa, adidas Football Sports Marketing. “This powerful symbol of leadership and defiance became an emblem of his commitment to the people. On horseback, Mpanza would rally the community, and advocate for their rights, cementing his iconic image, dedication, and courage.”
The new Orlando Pirates 2024/2025 kits consist of two designs: the Home jersey (black) features the legendary Orlando Pirates logo with a black, white, and red color palette, presenting a sleek and forward-facing aesthetic, while the Away jersey (green) symbolizes diversity and introduces a seasonal green tone.
The new jerseys, crafted from 100% recycled materials, blend sustainability with adidas’s cutting-edge AEROREADY and Climalite technologies to keep athletes cool and dry and feature a James Sofasonke Mpanza back-neck sign-off.
Orlando Pirates 2024/2025 kits will be available on Monday, 22 July 2024 online via adidas.co.za/orlando_pirates and Orlando Pirates Shop. And will release in-store at adidas stores on 25 July 2024.
Available in men’s, women’s, and kids sizes.
Players will debut the 24/25 jersey 03 August 2024.
