The low-cost airline FlySafair, will expand its fleet for the summer season with two additional Boeing 737-800 NGs, increasing its daily flight schedule by 12 to 14 flights.
The two new aircraft are being added to meet summer flight demand. The airline has yet to reveal specific routes for the new Boeings.
It’s likely that the new planes will be stationed in top destinations: Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban.
The first of the new aircraft is set to arrive at the end of July and will join the airline’s roster by September. The second one will arrive in October and begin operations in November.
Each plane will increase FlySafair’s capacity by 189 seats per flight, boosting the total fleet to 36 aircraft.
Kirby Gordon, FlySafair’s chief marketing officer, said they are preparing for the busy season, emphasizing that they see current prices as excessively high and that additional flights are needed during peak times to meet demand.
“There’s no better time to prepare for the silly season than now,” and that “our passengers feel the same way with bookings over December already rising.” He also predicted, “We perceive current market pricing to be irrationally high meaning the peak periods need more capacity.”
