Netflix has got another local gem on the way featuring a solid cast including the late Connie Chiume.
Produced by the acclaimed Gambit Films, the creators behind hits like Blood and Water and Unseen, this new series is a South African remake of the popular Mexican show Monarca.
Set against the backdrop of KwaZulu-Natal’s sugarcane fields, the story kicks off with the mysterious murder of the CEO of Spear Industries, sparking a brutal power struggle among his children. As Khanyi Adesina (Xolile Tshabalala) returns to Durban after years away, she finds her family’s multibillion-rand corporation on the brink of collapse, with her siblings Mandla Ndlovu (Buyile Mdladla) and Siya Ndlovu (Mike Ndlangamandla) vying for control.
The storyline follows what we have seen on shows like HBO’s Succession, when family fights for control and power.
The cast includes some of South Africa’s finest talents, with the late Connie Chiume delivering a powerful performance as the family matriarch, alongside industry veterans Treasure Nkosi and Sello Maake Ka-Ncube.
Pallance Dladla, Wiseman Zitha, and Unathi Mkhize also join the ensemble, promising a high-stakes drama that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Directed by a talented team including Nozipho Nkelemba, Marvin-Lee Beukes, Nthabiseng Mokoena, and Bonnie Sithebe, Blood Legacy promises to deliver a gripping narrative steeped in drama, power, and betrayal.
As per the official synopsis: “When Khanyi Adesina returns home to Durban after years of estrangement, she finds her family and their business under threat. After her corrupt father is murdered for trying to go straight, she decides to stay and fight for control of the company in hopes of changing the family’s criminal legacy.”
The 20-episode series will be available to stream on Netflix on 20 September 2024.
