The 2024 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs), held over the weekend at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Gauteng, celebrated the best in South African film and television.
Leading the night with an impressive 12 awards, Shaka iLembe took home the highly coveted Best TV Drama award, solidifying its place as the biggest winner of the night. Hot on its heels, Outlaws emerged as another strong contender, bagging eight awards, including Best Telenovela.
The SAFTAs commenced on Friday, 25 October, with the Film Craft Awards, recognizing technical excellence in the industry. The main ceremony on Saturday, 26 October, brought out South Africa’s top talent to honor achievements across various categories, showcasing the best of local storytelling, production, and on-screen performances.
In the television categories, Shaka iLembe dominated the drama genre, excelling in sound, wardrobe, art direction, and cinematography, while Outlaws took the spotlight in the telenovela segment, winning accolades for editing, original music score, art direction, and scriptwriting.
In the film category, The Fragile King was a standout, earning the Best Feature Film award and honors for directing, acting, and scriptwriting.
Other notable winners included Skeem Saam for Best TV Soap and Yoh! Christmas for Best TV Comedy.
