The GRAMMY Awards are turning up the spotlight on African artists once again, with an impressive lineup of nominations hailing from Naija, Ghana, and South Africa.
Following last year’s groundbreaking introduction of the Best African Music Performance category, the Recording Academy continues to honor Africa’s rich musical diversity, showcasing some of the continent’s brightest stars.
This year, Nigerian sensation Tems leads the pack with three nominations: Best African Music Performance for “Love Me JeJe,” Best Global Music Album for Born in the Wild, and Best R&B Song for “Burning.” Tems is joined by an all-star lineup in the Best African Music Performance category, featuring heavyweights like Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Lojay.
In another highlight, Beninese legend Angélique Kidjo has received a nomination for her uplifting track “Sunlight to My Soul,” featuring South Africa’s renowned Soweto Gospel Choir. Ghana’s own Rocky Dawuni also earned a nod for his inspirational song “Rise.” Adding to the excitement, Rema’s HEUS received a nomination for Best Global Music Album, bringing his unique sound into the Grammy spotlight.
Last year, the Best African Music Performance category made history when it awarded the Grammy to South African singer Tyla, marking a milestone in recognizing Africa’s dynamic music scene. With this year’s strong showing of African talent, the 2024 Grammy Awards are set to further celebrate the continent’s cultural impact on the world stage.
African music is ready to take center stage again at the Grammys, and fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting to see who will walk away with the golden gramophone.
The main event of the 2025 GRAMMY Awards will take place live at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on 02 February.
