As previously reported, The Foschini Group (TFG) has signed a franchise deal with JD Sports to bring several retail outlets to South Africa. This deal is now coming to fruition, with the first-ever JD Sports store opening in South Africa this weekend.
This first-ever JD Sports store is opening on 15 and 16 November 2024 at Canal Walk in Cape Town through a special launch. Located in a prime spot within the mall, the new JD store features 780 square metres of space and embodies the latest innovations in retail design, combining modern aesthetics with functional enhancements that elevate the customer experience.

JD Sports is one of the leading sneaker and sportswear retailers in the UK, offering a wide range of brands like Nike, adidas, PUMA, and The North Face, along with strong private labels such as Pink Soda and Supply & Demand.
TFG will drive the JD Sports store expansion of around 50-60 stores over the next 5 years in South Africa.
TFG CEO Anthony Thunström says JD Sports’ launch in South Africa adds a fresh, global sports-fashion vibe to the local scene, building on TFG’s sporty lineup with brands like Sportscene, Totalsports, and Sneaker Factory.

The JD Sports in Cape Town is located at Canal Walk Shopping Centre (Shop L161, Near Entrance 7).
