The iconic Cape Town Minstrel Carnival, returns this weekend on 4 January 2025 for another vibrant showcase of music, dance, and cultural heritage. This event will transform the city’s streets into a lively celebration, featuring over 18 minstrel troupes and 20,000 performers in glittery costumes and colorful parasols.
Spectators can expect the troupes to march along Darling Street and through the Hollywoodbets Purple Mile, filling the air with the energetic sounds of “ghoema” music played on banjos, trumpets, and drums.
Each troupe will perform individually, offering an unforgettable experience of synchronized dance moves and captivating rhythms.
The parade begins at 1:15 pm following the Thuhr prayer, with the procession starting from Sir Lowry Road and Hanover Street in District Six.
The troupes will make their way through Adderley Street, Wale Street, and into the historic Bo-Kaap neighborhood before concluding at Rose Street. Highlighted performers include the West London All-Stars, Fabulous Woodstock Starlites, Mitchells Plain Young Tycoons Academy, and many more, bringing a diverse range of talent to this long-standing cultural tradition.
