The city’s streets were transformed into a dazzling celebration of music, dance, and heritage as over 18 minstrel troupes and 20,000 performers entertained a crowd of 80,000 to 100,000 spectators.
Glittering costumes, colorful parasols, and the unmistakable sounds of “ghoema” music filled the air, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of unity and joy.
The procession began in District Six, with troupes kicking off from Sir Lowry Road and Hanover Street after the Thuhr prayer. The performers marched through Darling Street, the Hollywoodbets Purple Mile, and Adderley Street, captivating onlookers with their synchronized dance moves and lively rhythms. The parade concluded in the historic Bo-Kaap, leaving a trail of excitement and cultural pride in its wake.
Standout performances came from troupes like the West London All-Stars, Fabulous Woodstock Starlites, and Mitchells Plain Young Tycoons Academy, each showcasing their unique style and energy. The Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade once again proved why it remains an integral part of the city’s cultural calendar, celebrating Cape Town’s rich history and community spirit with flair and vibrancy.
