Following the temporary U.S. ban on ByteDance-owned apps TikTok and CapCut, Instagram’s parent company, Meta, has announced its next big move: a brand-new video editing app called Edits.
This app, designed specifically for video creators, is set to launch in March and will directly take on CapCut which is currently one of the popular video editing apps.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri revealed the news in a detailed post, emphasizing that Edits is more than just a basic editing tool.

It comes as no surprise that Instagram seized the opportunity. Now the platform wants to attract users to edit their videos on its new app. Previously, the platform’s standard editing tools were considered subpar by many video creators.
According to Mosseri, Edits will provide users with a “full suite of creative tools”, giving them the power to produce professional-grade content. He added that the app would include features to help creators organize ideas, find inspiration, and track engagement effectively.

Here’s a breakdown of some standout features coming to Edits:
– No Watermarks: Export videos without watermarks and share them across any platform.
– Draft Management: Keep all drafts and videos organized in one place.
– Advanced Video Recording: Capture high-quality clips up to 10 minutes long and begin editing immediately.
– Optimized for Instagram: Seamlessly share your videos to Instagram in 1080p resolution.
– Insights Dashboard: A real-time analytics tool to track video performance, offering insights into engagement from both followers and non-followers.
With the ability to export content to any platform and in-app features tailored for Instagram success, Edits could redefine how creators approach short-form video content.
The app is available for preorder in the iOS App Store, and coming to Android soon. The app won’t be available to download until next month.
