Africa had its moment at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, with Nigerian singer Tems taking home the prestigious Best African Music Performance Award for her hit single ‘Love Me JeJe.’
The track, which reimagines Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic, secured Tems her second Grammy win, making her the most awarded Nigerian artist in Grammy history.
Tems, who previously won Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023 for her collaboration with Future and Drake on Wait For U, triumphed over Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Lojay, Asake, and Chris Brown to claim the award.
This marks the second year of the African Music Performance category, following its debut in 2024, where South African singer Tyla won for her global smash Water. With both awards now going to female artists, it highlights the growing influence of African women in the global music scene.
On a night of big wins for Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Doechii, Tems’ victory further cements her status as a leading figure in Afrobeats, bringing African music to even greater heights.
