Tyla has officially joined the billion-stream club. The South African superstar has made history as the first African solo artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify with her global smash hit ‘Water.’

This milestone cements her status as one of the most influential rising voices in music and highlights the growing global impact of African artists.

With this achievement, Tyla joins the ranks of African stars like Wizkid (One Dance with Drake), Rema (Calm Down with Selena Gomez), and Tems (Wait For U with Future and Drake), who have all crossed the billion-stream mark through collaborations. However, Tyla stands out as the first African solo artist to achieve this feat on her own.

Released on 28 July 2023, Water became an international sensation, gaining momentum after Tylaโ€™s electrifying live performance at the Giants of Africa Festival in Kigali, Rwanda. The viral dance challenge that followed helped propel the song up the charts, ultimately earning her a Grammy for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards in February 2024.

This historic moment not only celebrates Tylaโ€™s meteoric rise but also shines a spotlight on African musicโ€™s unstoppable global influence.
