It’s all eyes on Netflix’s latest South African series, Go. From the first scenes, the series brings the energy of Johannesburg’s Hillbrow to the screen with breathtaking cinematography.
Created by Kutlwano Ditsele and head writer Thuli Zuma, the six-part drama is directed by Tristan Holmes and is a must-watch with an intense, high-stakes story of ambition, betrayal, and survival.
At the heart of Go is Siya “Bolt” Gumede (Thandolwethu Zondi), a lightning-fast runner who makes money through underground street races. His talent catches the attention of Coach Arendse (Brendon Daniels), who offers him a full-ride scholarship to St. Jude’s prep school, giving him a chance at a better future.
Just as things start looking up, tragedy strikes. Under pressure from his older brother Shuffle (Wiseman Mncube), Siya is forced to frame his best friend Mandla (Wonder Ndlovu) for a hit-and-run that left a child from the influential Khumalo family dead.
As the lies pile up, Siya struggles to keep his dark secret hidden from his girlfriend Nthabi (Shalate Sekhabi), his mother, and the very family funding his scholarship. What starts as an opportunity for a fresh start quickly turns into a dangerous web of guilt and deception, threatening everything Siya has worked for.
Fair enough to say this local gem is a solid watch and you can just admire the raw energy of Jozi’s streets while diving deep into themes of loyalty, ambition, and the consequences of one fateful decision.
The series is now streaming on Netflix:
