The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced new petrol price updates, which will be in effect from Wednesday, 2 April 2025.

Petrol and diesel prices will be significantly reduced with the new adjustments.

The department attributed the decrease to falling oil prices and a stronger rand in March.

The following price changes will apply:

  • Petrol 93: down by 58 cents per litre
  • Petrol 95: down by 72 cents per litre
  • Diesel 0.05%: down by 84 cents per litre
  • Diesel 0.005%: down by 84 cents per litre

The main factors behind the price decrease are continued supply from non-OPEC countries and a moderate increase in supply from OPEC+ producers in April 2025.

The department said that lower crude oil prices and a stronger rand resulted in reduced Basic Fuel Prices for petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin by 66.36 c/l, 80.10 c/l, and 72.07 c/l, respectively.
