YouTube is raising the price of its Premium and Music plans in South Africa, hitting subscribers with a notable increase starting June 2025. The standard YouTube Premium plan will rise from R71.99 to R81.99 per month, while the Family plan sees a big increase from R109.99 to R149.99.
YouTube Premium gives users an ad-free video experience across the platform and includes access to YouTube Music. For those only interested in music, the YouTube Music individual plan is going from R59.99 to R64.99, and the Family plan is increasing from R89.99 to R99.99.
New users will already see the higher prices, while current subscribers will only be affected from their first billing date in June 2025. YouTube has started emailing users to notify them of the new fees, explaining the hikes are meant to support ongoing improvements and creator funding. “We don’t make these decisions lightly,” YouTube said in its message. “But this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
In case you’re wondering about the difference between the two services: YouTube Music gives users access to millions of songs ad-free with offline listening options. YouTube Premium, on the other hand, offers an ad-free experience on both video content and music, making it a more complete, albeit pricier, bundle.
