This past weekend, Vans turned up the heat in Texas, hosting a culture-packed event that brought together skateboarding, music, art and community in a way only they can.
Teaming up with Cape Town’s iconic hangout, Blondie, Vans delivered an experience that felt like a full-on celebration of self-expression and movement.
The centrepiece? A giant, matchbox-inspired skate feature created in collaboration with Blondie — a bold design that gave skaters a chance to push the boundaries of creativity and style. Custom-built obstacles transformed the park into a skate playground, where tricks weren’t just pulled, they were performed.
South African skate figure and Vans athlete Yann Horowitz held down hosting duties, while pro skater Boipelo Awuah represented for the women on the deck. DJ sets from Mila Rose and Fluffy brought serious vibes, with the music and energy building deep into the night.
As expected, the skate challenges were next level. From the Man of the Match contest featuring flaming matchstick rails, to the Paloma Coma — where skaters tried to land tricks while balancing cocktail glasses — every moment was pure chaos and joy. The HOROBLITZ challenge pushed riders out of their comfort zones for a shot at best trick honours, all while the crowd backed them up with nonstop energy.
This event was more than just a skate jam — it was a cultural moment. A space where everyone showed up, showed out and celebrated the raw creativity that lives in the skate, art and music scenes.
