TV SHOW OF THE WEEK: Netflix series ‘Meet the Khumalos’

New watch this week.

Netflix brings back the feel-good family chaos with “Meet the Khumalos,” a local gem that reimagines the 2017 hit Meet the Kandasamys, and yes, it’s once again directed and produced by Jayan Moodley.

This new version swaps out Chatsworth for the elite Umhlanga suburbs, but keeps the spicy rivalry and hilariously messy family dynamics intact.

Khanyi Mbau stars as Grace Khumalo, a woman living her picture-perfect suburban life until it’s flipped upside down when her high school rival Bongi Sithole, played by Ayanda Borotho, moves in next door. The tension is instant, and it only gets worse when the two find out their children are secretly dating. Instead of embracing young love, Grace and Bongi team up—with petty precision—to break them up.

Also starring Jesse Suntele, Khosi Ngema, Connie Chiume, Bonga Dlamini, and Siyabonga Shibe, Meet the Khumalos is a proudly South African laugh-out-loud romcom, rooted in friendship, family, and the chaos that comes with meddling moms. Expect scheming, snooping, and a whole lot of drama.

Stream Meet the Khumalos now on Netflix for a fun local story packed with heart, humour, and just enough rivalry to keep you coming back for more.
