Instagram launches its standalone video editing app called ‘Edits’

For creators to shoot and edit video content and access insights.

Instagram has officially launched its standalone video editing app called Edits.

Edits, which rolled out globally on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, is aimed at creators—helping them organize projects, track notes and ideas, shoot and edit videos, and gain insights into performance.

The app also comes packed with smart tools that bring content to life—like turning static images into moving animations, generating automatic captions, cutting out subjects, and replacing backgrounds with ease.

This Instagram’s latest app enters a space already dominated by competitors like CapCut—a popular editing tool owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance—which lets users create and edit videos directly from their personal devices.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri first announced the app in January, calling it a CapCut rival but noting it’s “ideally meant to be used by creators more than casual video makers.”
