The long-running e.tv hit soapie Scandal! is coming to an end, with its final episodes set to air in June 2026.

This marks the conclusion of over two decades of continuous broadcast on e.tv.

The decision comes as the television landscape continues to shift, and broadcasters create regularly review their line‑ups to stay relevant.

In e.tv’s view, Scandal! “has reached the end of its life cycle,” prompting the channel to step back.

In a statement announcing the soapie’s end, the channel praised its legacy, saying “Since its debut, Scandal! became a household name in South Africa, captivating millions of viewers with powerful storylines, unforgettable characters, and performances that have consistently set new benchmarks in local television,” adding that “For over two decades, the series has reflected the complexities of everyday life, sparking conversations and providing entertainment of the highest standard.”

Extending its thanks to the production team, cast, crew, writers, and everyone who worked on the show, e.tv said…

“e.tv extends its deepest gratitude to Ochre Media, the production company behind Scandal!, for their unwavering creativity and partnership throughout the years,” adding that “The channel also pays tribute to the talented cast and dedicated crew, writers, directors, producers, technicians, and all those behind the scenes, whose artistry, commitment, and passion have been central to the show’s remarkable success and longevity.”

Helga Palmer, Group Head: Local Programming and Strategy at eMedia, said she’s “proud of what Scandal! has achieved, not only as a top-rated television property but also as a vital part of South Africa’s cultural landscape.”

She added gratitude to the loyal viewers who tuned in faithfully over the years.

From the production side, Stan Joseph — Executive Producer at Ochre Media — called the journey “an incredible journey and a true labour of love”, noting how “for close to twenty years, our writers, directors, actors, and crew have poured their hearts into bringing authentic South African stories to life.”

While the farewell may be bittersweet, e.tv is allowing fans time to adjust: Scandal! will remain on the air until June 2026 so audiences can absorb the closure gradually.
