Showmax has a new docu-series, Slay Queens, diving into the lives of women chasing the soft life by any means necessary.

The five-part documentary series is set to premiere on Showmax on Friday, 31 October 2025, with new episodes dropping every Friday.

Executive producer Vusi Zion explains that “Slay Queens was born from a need to hold up a mirror to a world we often speak about in whispers, memes, or judgment, but rarely listen to directly.”

He adds, “I was inspired by the courage of women who live these realities every day, by the men and communities affected, and by the silence surrounding their truths.”

For him, the goal was clear: “My role as a filmmaker is not to sanitise or sensationalise but to create a platform where voices that are usually dismissed or caricatured can be heard in their full complexity.”

Slay Queens features real voices from both sides of the lifestyle—those living it and those witnessing it up close. DJ and influencer Cyan Boujee opens up like never before, sharing the highs and lows of internet fame, from staying relevant to dealing with the pressure of online scrutiny. Amapiano star and nightclub owner Mr JazziQ also weighs in, offering a front-row view from Jozi’s nightlife scene, where slay queens dominate the VIP booths and dance floors.

With raw honesty, Jackie Phamotse shares her personal journey from the slay queen lifestyle to self-reinvention, offering a perspective shaped by lived experience and the lessons behind her bestseller Bare.

Adding depth is Lebo Masango, whose academic insights in The Soft Life connect the dots between love, transactional relationships, and economic pressures—while other cast voices, like a sangoma, Uber driver, and event promoter, reveal just how layered this world really is.
