Heineken has introduced a clever new concept called the Bar de Change at Johannesburgโs OR Tambo International Airport, designed to give South African travellers a break when heading to Europe. With the rand being weaker, a Heineken in Europe can cost up to double what youโd pay locally, and thatโs where this idea comes in.
The “baR de changโฌ” concept is simply like a Bureau de Change, but for beers.
At the Bar de Change counter, travellers can buy Heineken beers at South African prices before they leave and receive digital vouchers in return. Once in Europe, those vouchers can be redeemed at selected partner bars for the same beers, one for one. Itโs a simple way to skip the high prices abroad and keep the experience fun and stress free.
To bring the idea to life, Heineken South Africa sent a group of local creatives across Europe to test it out, redeeming their vouchers in different cities while sharing their experiences in real time.
